小编笔记：首先，依然是需要反复朗读，在朗读时一定要再次注意每个句子的时态、短语、新的单词、描述动作的状语/副词，描述名词的形容词，还有各种表示时间的短语。
整篇文章是在讲一个故事，所以基本的时态是过去时，比如the plane was late， 飞机晚点了，这个was就是过去时，因为晚点是在故事里面发生的，当然是过去发生的。然后说detectives were waiting at the airport all morning, 侦探们在机场等了整整一上午。“等”这个动作是过去进行时，在那天的上午，侦探们一直都在等，一直都在期盼着一个包裹。
they were expecting a valuable parcel of diamonds from South Africa，这个句子比较长，我用这个句子来仔细的拆解一下， 他们在等一个包裹，怎样的包裹，a valuable parcel, 一个贵重的包裹，valuable 是形容词，形容这个包裹是贵重的，怎么就贵重啦？a valuable parcel of diamonds, 一个装着钻石的贵重包裹，of diamonds 是一个介词短语【介词短语总是一个介词+宾语（名词或者代词）构成的】，然后再加上一个from Africa,来自南非的。同样是一个介词短语，再次对包裹做出另一个角度的说明。好累，如果英语都要这样去拆解，可能是一条邪路，不过本着食不厌精的精神，我就深入说一下，你可以学，也可以不探究，但反复的多读几遍，做到张口就来，读出就能理解就好了。语感再涨一步！！！哦耶。
从语法的角度，实际上《新概念英语》的课本中充满了这种“后置定语与介词短语嵌套结构”，随着我们学习的进展，我们会更多的遇到这样的场景，
- 《新概念英语》第二册 中就充满了这种通过介词短语为名词添加多层信息的经典写法，这是构建地道英语句子的基石。
- 《新概念英语》第三册 更是将这种结构运用得出神入化，通过多个后置定语（包括介词短语、分词短语、定语从句）的叠加，来创造复杂、精确且优雅的长句。
比如，我们来造一个更长的句子：
- "They were expecting a valuable parcel of diamonds from South Africa [which had been mined from the deepest veins of the Premier Mine]."
- 他们正在等待一个从南非来的贵重钻石包裹，这些钻石开采自普雷米尔矿山最深的矿脉。
瞧，在 a parcel of diamonds from South Africa 之后，我们又嵌套了一个定语从句来进一步修饰“diamonds”，这正是《新概念英语》高阶课程中精讲的“多重修饰”技巧。

The plane was late and detectives were waiting at the airport all morning. They were expecting a valuable parcel of diamonds from South Africa. A few hours earlier, someone had told the police that thieves would try to steal the diamonds. When the plane arrived, some of the detectives were waiting inside the main building while others were waiting on the airfield. Two men took the parcel off the plane and carried it into the Customs House. While two detectives were keeping guard at the door, two others opened the parcel. To their surprise, the precious parcel was full of stones and sand!

飞机误点了，侦探们在机场等了整整一上午。他们正期待从南非来的一个装着钻石的贵重包裹。数小时以前，有人向警方报告，说有人企图偷走这些钻石。当飞机到达时，一些侦探等候在主楼内，另一些侦探则守候在停机坪上。有两个人把包裹拿下飞机，进了海关。这时两个侦探把住门口，另外两个侦探打开了包裹。令他们吃惊的是，那珍贵的包裹里面装的全是石头和沙子！
